Robert Downey Jr. is Sherlock Holmes

Robert Downey Jr. has been slated to play gumshoe archetype Sherlock Holmes in an upcoming adaptation directed by Guy Ritchie. I Like Ritchie for director if he can maintain a style consistent with Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch. Unfortunately, I think the black hole in his wife's crotch may have sucked all talent from him. Seriously, how does a director go from this to this ? It's like Flowers for Algernon, but instead of using a drug they use a withered horse-face from Detroit.

On the upside, this movie will have Robert Downey Jr as Sherlock fucking Holmes, which is immeasurably badass. On one hand, Downey has an immense dramatic range to build the character upon. On the other hand, Holmes can be described as brilliantly talented elitist who happens to be a coke-addicted asshole, so I don't think it is much of a stretch for Downey.
